Greetings from Australia!

We’re happy to welcome spring after a mild winter, at least where I live.

I’m pleased to announce that we have changed the name of the Family Therapy Section to “Couple and Family Therapy” to better reflect the inclusivity of our work. We’ll also incorporate issues related to family businesses.

We’re getting busy in our field.

  • We’ll be hosting a webinar on September 27th titled “Changing Those Who are a Drain into a Gain.” Click here to register.
  • We’ve been in contact with family therapists in Brazil, and we plan to run a workshop in Portuguese with Wladimir Porreca on “Espiritualidades em FamĂlias” Keep tuned.
  • We are also in touch with Marcia Honing, Chair of the Transcultural Section, to organise joint events.
  • Additionally, we plan to hold a one-day Family Therapy workshop, which has yet to be confirmed, on the first day of the 2025 International Conference in Sapporo. We’d like several presenters to participate.
  • We invite:
    • Family therapists from different countries will present activities, webinars, and workshops on relevant issues you face in your countries.
    •  psychodramatists, expressive therapists, and group therapists, please contact us to discuss presenting activities together.

Meanwhile, I wish everyone attending the IAGP conference in Brazil safe travels. Enjoy every moment in that beautiful country and its welcoming and colourful people. “Tenha uma boa viagem.”

Family Therapy Section

The Family Therapy Section aims to strengthen families as a whole and support each member in achieving a sense of success and satisfaction in peace and harmony, ultimately enriching a society that is in great need.

We are an inclusive platform that welcomes practitioners, therapists, coaches, and educators at all experience levels, as well as anyone interested in contributing to and learning more about the art of relationships. Our focus is on supporting every type of family issue by considering the family as a system composed of individual members. We are aware of the challenges every family faces, including generational, multicultural, ideological, and religious differences and expectations.

Our work includes helping families navigate various domains such as rites of passage, extended family dynamics, migration issues, and family business entrepreneurship (family Business). Our main focus is to strengthen pillars towards family wellbeing: Imagination, Communication, Collaboration, and Spirituality (not necessarily religious). Imagination involves aspiring to build the best possible family relationships, which can become a reality through effective Communication and Cooperation. This is embraced and nurtured by a sense of spirituality, mutual respect, and the capacity to celebrate life.

These key elements help families better handle adversity and conflict, transforming problems into opportunities. This approach leads to successful family wellbeing, where each member and the family as a whole can enjoy life together and contribute to a healthy society for the common good.

We’d like to hear from you about what you’d like to contribute to the group, what you’d like to get from it, and suggestions on how we can better address any type of family needs in our midst.

We define family as a dynamic social unit characterised by diverse compositions and arrangements, where individuals form bonds based on mutual respect, love, and shared values, free from any type of discrimination, including sex or gender. This perspective emphasises the autonomy and agency of individuals within the family, promoting inclusivity, equality, and the recognition of various family forms within and beyond the traditional nuclear model.

The MacKays – three different perspectives on a family history case study

During this online IAGP Zoom webinar, Carlos Raimundo presented a Psychodramatic-Sociometric approach to a real-life case history of the MacKay family. After that, two other panelists, Roberta Mineo and Simon McLellan, commented from their distinct perspectives (Groupanalytic & Organisational) on the same case study, followed by a discussion with the online audience.
